Newsletter for January, 2007 including minutes of General Meeting 21-11-2006

Hi Cadimates,

It’s (thankfully) a New Year although I know we enjoyed the camaraderie and organised runs in 2006. Let’s hope that 2007 is the best yet, not only for each one of you individually, but for us as a thriving club.

I’ve left these minutes of last meeting in November 2006 until now to send so that you are reminded of our first meeting for 2007 to be held next Tuesday, 16th January at our usual venue, The Beenleigh Bowls Club, Hanover Street, Beenleigh.

One of the (few) great joys of this past year for me has been enjoying watching the enthusiasm of some of our newer (and younger!) members as they’ve thrown themselves with passion into chosen tasks. I think her particularly of Tammy and Terry (Lobegeier) and Kellie and Lyndon, not to mention Troy. Add to this the much appreciated hard work put in by Leonce in painstakingly organising such great outings for us and I think you’ll agree our “Cadillac Club” is continuing to please more and more members.

Nationally, of course, our strongest stalwarts and most dedicated workers are the team of Robyn and Terry who put so much (again appreciated) effort into producing La Cad, by far the best Car Club magazine in this country (at the very least!).

I’m just glad I’m part of this great Club and can rely on the support and affection so often exhibited to me. May that never cease!

Present: Robyn and Terry Griffin, Fred Prackett, Geoff Walker, Lyndon Stephenson, Kellie Hall, Val and Suzie Sharp, Graeme Anderson, John Brandon, Robert Sutherland, Leonce Kealy, Frank Partington, Tammy and Terry Lobegeier.

Treasurer’s Report: Current balance: $1914.12

Accepted: Fred Prackett, Seconded: Lyndon Stephenson

Combined Council Report (from Val Sharp):

  • One of our members was pulled over early in the morning in a SIVS registered car. He was fined $180 for using his car outside the regulations. The officer told him that he had to prove that he was on a club run (with documentation) [this was incorrect by the way]. He was more than 50 Klms from home.
  • No Combined Council meeting until February because there is nothing new.
  • Another chap in one of the truck clubs became very agitated when he was pulled over and queried about his club membership.  His membership had expired and he was told he had to renew his membership within 28 days or register his truck on full registration.  He could not accept the fact that he had broken the law.
  • Council itself is running well.

President’s Report:

Gary Ibbitson is resting at home after having a hospital visit on Monday.  He tells us he will definitely be at the Christmas Party; we wish him a speedy recovery.

Our financial membership as of 16 October was 62, with 14 members still in arrears at that date.  I expect to have more members regain financial status, but this is still disappointing.  If anyone has ideas on how we can retain members, please let me know.

Robyn’s and my trip to Western Australia was excellent, with a well attended meeting of the Western Australian region, who have a good and growing collection of Cadillacs.  We got around 2,500 photos during our wildflower trip through the South West.  The Summer edition of LaCad will show the quality of the Western Australian cars, but no wildflower photos have made it into the magazine.

We caught the ‘red eye’ flight and returned to Queensland at 5:30am Sunday 22 October and went on the run to Alana’s Rock’n’Roll diner.  I believe those who went had a good time; Robyn and I left around 2:00 pm and went home for a rest before starting work the next day.

Halloween at Manly Harbour Village on Saturday 28 October was, as usual, a huge success, thanks to Val for his organising capabilities.  We had eight Cadillacs decorated to the hilt, many with inflatable ghosts, pumpkins and spiders supplied by Val.  Geoff Walker took some great photos of our Caddies, which will be in the Summer 2006/2007 edition of LaCad.

Leonce has organised the run to Yatala Brewery next Sunday.  Robyn and I will be unable to attend, but I’m sure many members will take up this run.

We need to finalise the Christmas party arrangements tonight so that the appropriate tasks can be allocated to committee members.

Thanks to Steve and Di Bowman’s Kustom City, Robyn has now seats in her Gucci she can be proud of.  Both the front and rear seats have been repaired and reupholstered, and the vinyl roof has been replaced.

Happy Cadillacing, Terry

General Business:

SIVS [Club] REGISTRATION and the role of membership. How should we as a Club handle this?

Frank Partington: A letter should be written to the non-financial members who have cars on SIVS registration whose membership is not current. This letter would inform the lapsed member that should no action in regard to renewal of membership be made within 14 days, this breach will be reported to Queensland Transport.

Should the lapsed member have joined another club whose conditions comply with Transport regulations, he must inform the author of this change forthwith.

Moved by Frank Partington, Seconded: Graeme. Passed!!!!

Moved further by Lyndon Stephenson that this be an annual (to be actioned in August) occurrence. Seconded: Graeme Anderson
